Bet Smart MasterClass Instructors: How Good Are They?

The six instructors in this class are all popular and highly regarded in the sports betting community. These are people who have been betting for years and winning. They know the ins and outs of sports betting and are good at imparting their collective wisdom to ensure the learners bet wisely. Are you excited to know who they are?

Nick Kostos (the host of You Better You Bet) is fun and easy-going and wants to ensure we don’t make the same rookie mistakes he did.

Rob Pizzola is more analytical and serious. He likes diving into how key concepts in sports betting can help or deter us.

Captain Jack Andrews is the co-founder of Unabated Sports and impresses us with his scientific method for betting.

Joe Fortenbaugh an Analyst at ESPN Bet Live is all about betting responsibly and strategically. His betting stories were bizarre and intriguing.

Rufus Peabody, a professional sports bettor, helps us with the statistical aspects of sports betting.

Gina Fiore, a professional gambler, is great at breaking down the concepts for inexperienced bettors like me.

All the instructors have made millions by betting on sports. So, you are in good hands.

Who is this Class for?

This class is for rookies and recreational bettors with no clue about the algorithm behind sports betting. Ignorance is bliss; but why be a losing bettor when you can improve your prospects? Taking this class would help you avoid the mistakes an average bettor makes. However, it has nothing to offer for professional bettors or even someone with relatively good knowledge about the mechanisms of sports betting.

Pros and Cons

In betting, you win some and you lose some. Likewise, in this class, you get some good things and some things that need improvement. Let’s see what those are.

What I like about this Masterclass
Clear explanation of (sports) betting terms.
Experienced bettors as instructors.
Interesting betting stories.
Valuable tips, tools, and suggestions.
Things I didn’t Like
Can be confusing for utter newbies like me at first.
Underwhelming class guide.
Doesn’t explain the intricacies of betting much.

What You’ll Learn

Betting doesn’t depend on luck alone. It’s a skill; you can win. And, the instructors (the pros) help you understand the fundamentals of sports betting. You will learn concepts like bankroll (total amount of money set aside for betting), emotional bankroll, money line bet, and most importantly, the edge. Sports betting, at its core, is all about finding the edges and winning. The instructors provide several other tips for finding the edges.

We also learn about things like Vigs (commission we pay for placing bets), point spread, over/under bets, live bets (and their advantages), prop bets, future bets, and parlays. The point here is to not just help you learn the meaning, but use it to your advantage. The strategies they shared are useful. The stories of how they bet and won and the stress they go through are quite interesting. Seriously, who bets on the length of a national anthem? Ridiculous but intriguing.

Parlay Bet

I found the Parlay bets to be the most fascinating. The scene in which Jack Sparrow tries unsuccessfully to say ‘parley’ was summoned from the backwaters of my mind as soon as I heard the term. Never mind that a parlay bet and a pirate’s parley are completely different. Kostos and Pizzola do a great job of explaining the legs involved in parlay bets.

The instructors also explain how to earn risk-free money using promos and odds boosts. They also delve into the uses and drawbacks of flat staking. Furthermore, we learn why tracking our bets could prove useful. The pro bettors discuss some useful tools you can use to determine what and how to bet, too (odds screen being one of them).

Now comes an interesting concept (but only if you like statistics). You will learn more about modeling in sports betting to determine something called ‘the source of truth’. However, the experts recommend taking a course in statistics or programming to successfully create models. Combining qualitative and quantitative opinions to gain an edge is considered a superior strength; did you know that?

The expert bettors explain near the end of the class that winning is not a problem, but winning big is. Why is that? Sportsbooks profile the bettors and impose limitations on those they consider as ‘sharp’ bettors. They don’t like winners; so, you can only place limited bets if you consistently win. (The audacity of these establishments!)

So, how do you combat being limited? The instructors have some tips for that, too. Who knew acting like (but not being) a losing bettor or a person with a gambling problem could be useful? Finally, the pros share their thoughts on and hopes for the future of sports betting. They are optimistic that humans would still find the edge even with the rising influence of AI.

Overall, this class was pretty informative for me. That may be because I knew absolutely nothing about sports betting when I started watching it. But, it would be unfair if I didn’t mention that this class is excellent for learning when to let go, step back, and (as Kostos said) live to fight another day.

Bet Smart MasterClass Cost

The three MasterClass subscription plans—Standard, Plus, and Premium—may seem too expensive when considering taking only one class. However, they unlock all 200+ courses on the site, and new classes are added every month.  You can take multiple classes from the same category or explore new ones to your heart’s fill.

masterclass subscription

The plans cost $120, $180, and $240 respectively, and are charged annually. The difference between them is the availability of offline mode and the number of devices that can be used simultaneously. Moreover, you can get a refund if you find the site doesn’t suit your learning style. Just ensure you request it before the 30 days are up.

What Others Say about Bet Smart MasterClass

The response to this class has been fairly positive. People like that several key concepts are explained clearly with examples. They find it helpful and insightful. The practical tips are good enough to change the way newbies and losing bettors bet. They also appreciate learning why it is better to bet using your brain and not the heart.

Final Verdict: Is Bet Smart MasterClass Worth It?

It is a great class for those on the fence about betting on sports and newbies. As promised, Bet Smart MasterClass provides some useful tips for recreational bettors. However, the extent of benefit derived depends on your knowledge or lack thereof about the sports betting industry. If you already have a good idea of what to expect, you may not find the class that intriguing. Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying the class is useless. It just may not live up to your expectations.
